Hi there! I’m fingerguns83, but most people call me Fingy.
I’m an IT professional specializing in enterprise A/V systems, but my education background is in music technology and saxophone.
When not instructing people to restart their computers (ah, the life of IT) or playing my saxophone, you can find me with a code editor open on one screen and a documentary or Minecraft YouTube open on the other.
How I Got Here
At the end of 2019, while working as a bassist at an amusement park, I started learning PHP in the green room between performances. Pretty good timing, considering that my plans of doing various performance contracts in 2020…didn’t exactly work out.
After the YouTube algorithm randomly served me some Hermitcraft videos during the lockdown in 2020, I set up a Minecraft server with some old college friends–reliving when we’d play split screen on the Xbox 360.
Eventually, like many casual servers, activity started to die off and I found myself on the impulseSV Patron Server. After some time, I became a part of the staff team of the server.
Through all this, I was still working on building my programming skills, learning JavaScript, C++, and Java along the way.
While working on such a large server, I started seeing needs for various tools. So I started with some web tools to make management and organization easier. Eventually, I started making mods and plugins as well.
I left my staff role May 2023, but have continued building plugins for the server, as well as for other servers managed by the same admin team.
